Yes, today: 31st August 2011 is the 54th year Malaysian's celebrating their independence day.
Yes, today: 31st August 2011 is the 54th year Malaysian's celebrating their independence day.
1957 is the year Malaysia got its independence from British colonial rule at Stadium Merdeka. This is the day we ought to appreciate what our previous leaders had done to gain independence for the country. We must also appreciate what our current leaders are doing so that Malaysia stays independence till years to come.

| The effort for independence was spearheaded by Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, who led a delegation of ministers and political leaders of Malaya in negotiations with the British in London for Merdeka, or independence. |
Last year we celebrated our Independence day on Tuesday. This year, Independence day falls on Wednesday and on the second day of Eid.
